Emergency Alerts System testing - Sunday 7th September

The government is testing the Emergency Alerts System on Sunday 7th September at 3pm. The system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. The government advises that there is no need to take any action.
Some people affected by domestic abuse (or other abuse), may have a mobile phone (possibly a work phone) concealed from their abuser, which could be revealed by the alert. If you need to, you can opt out of receiving the alert.
